KYMC 89.7 FM, which has served West County for twenty-nine years, is now off the air. The West County branch of the YMCA is citing budgetary concerns. The call letters and equipment may be transferred to some other organization, or the station itself might just shut down.

I was devastated to learn of the possible demise of KYMC. I came of age in West County in the 80's--KYMC was the only lifeline to the music that would end up being so important to me and truly shaped the musician I am today--helping a sad, suburban gay not feel so all alone.
